A man who knocked a woman unconscious while attacking another man in Surfers Paradise has avoided jail.

Jhet Buk-han Jones hit a woman in the face before she fell and was knocked unconscious, sustaining swelling to the back of her head, during a brawl in the glitter strip in July 2022.

Jones, 22, was arguing with the man outside a nightclub on Orchid Avenue before he punched him three times during the same attack.

He faced Southport Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

His defence lawyer told the court that Jones felt “remorseful, shameful and embarrassed” and had been to counselling.

However the prosecutor slammed the attacked as “unprovoked and unnecessary”.

Jones was sentenced to 15 months in jail, but was granted immediate parole.

Both victims were awarded $2000 in compensation, to be paid by Jones.
